AngeliteAngelite gemstone is formed from celestite that has been compressed for many millions of years. Angelite, also known as Blue Anhydrite, is a pale lilac-blue stone with a Mohs Hardness of 3.5 with an orthorhombic crystal structure which makes it suitable for carving figurines and making jewelry beads. The name of this stone comes from the Greek phrase ‘an hydros’ which means without water. It is a soft mineral which will convert into Gypsum if immersed in water, so it should not be worn while bathing or swimming. It also should not be submersed into harsh chemicals or mechanical cleansers for cleaning. The best way for cleaning the stone would be by wiping it with a slightly damp soft cloth or a very soft jewelry cloth. Angelite jewelry should be individually boxed or pouched in cloth or velvet for storing as it can be scratched easily.
